The
upcoming 2008 NFL season will begin in a few weeks and the pro football
teams are already preparing their players at the training camps after
the selection of the new pieces they will include in this year’s
rosters.
The first official game will be played on September 4th at the Giants
stadium and it will be featured by the Washington Red Skins and the New
York Giants. While the final game or Super Bowl XLIII will be played at
the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on February 1st, 2009.
Nevertheless, one of the leading NFL teams which is getting set for the
new season is the Pittsburgh Steelers that are currently members of the
North Division of the American Football Conference. The Steelers’
background goes back to 1933 when the team was first founded. Along
with their previous titles comes their latest Super Bowl win in 2005
when they defeated the Seattle Seahawks 21 " 10 in Detroit,
Michigan.
The Steelers have recently announced that they will be releasing their
first year Quarter Back Jared Zabransky and decided to give the
opportunity to enter the team’s practice squad to the British Marvin
Allen. Allen’s previous US experience was gained with the practice
team of the Miami Dolphins during the 2007 season. Allen’s kick off
contact with the NFL was during the 2005 and 2006 NFL Europe seasons
with teams from Germany and Holland respectively.
The 25-year-old Britton was born in Croyton, England and plays the wide
receiver position. As of 2006 Allen signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers
but was placed as part of the NFL international practice squad;
therefore he had the chance to practice for a different team as he did
with the Dolphins.
The Steelers are working hard to set a good start for the upcoming
season and with Allen’s addition the team’s roster grows up to 81
players in total at training camp which is a very promising group of
alternatives for them especially if we count injuries, transfers, and
other situations which will certainly arise throughout the season.
On the other hand, Quarter Back Jared Zabransky will be transferred to
a new practice squad which has yet not been specified within a few days
time. Zabransky who was part of the Steelers’ training list last
season first signed with Houston at the beginning of 2007 as he was
coming out of Boise State as an undrafted rookie.
The Steelers do have a rough way ahead of them but their players seemed
to have what it takes for a possible playoff pass as well as a good
defense which could push the team for a possible spot at the 2009 NFL
final encounter.
